Rosiglitazone is an anti-diabetic drug from the thiazolidinedione class. These are existence marketed when Avandia® per pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, both as a standalone preparation & inside combination sustaining metformin (Avandamet®).

Prefer more thiazolidinediones, its mechanism of action is by activation of the intracellular receptor class of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), specifically PPARγ. Rosiglitazone occurs as pure ligand of PPARγ, & has there are no PPARα-binding action. Apart from either its symptom in insulin resistance, it appears to have an anti-inflammatory effect: nuclear factor kappa-B (NFκB) levels fall and inhibitor (WeκB) levels increase within patients in rosiglitazone (Mohanty et al).
